Community action week delivers results following resident feedback

Monday, December 8, 2025

Hyndburn Police have completed a week of targeted activity in response to concerns raised by local residents through the Lancashire Talking survey. The operation focused on tackling anti-social behaviour (ASB), drug-related issues, and improving community confidence in the Wellington Court and Nelson Street areas.

Throughout the week officers carried out a whole range of activity including:

-          Drug enforcement – officers were out on Operation Centurion foot patrol where they conducted vehicle searches, resulting in a Cannabis community resolution and carried out stop checks and drug wipes on suspected vehicles.

-          Anti-social behaviour interventions – multiple youths involved in anti-social behaviour were moved on with details taken for follow-up. Breaches of Acceptable Behaviour Contracts (ABCs) were identified, and civil enforcement action is being progressed.

-          Community engagement – officers held a coffee with a cop event at the Belvedere Care Home, giving the residents there an opportunity to share their concerns. We also conducted letter drops and regular foot patrols to reassure residents and sign them up to In The Know, our community messaging service.

-          Dedicated traffic checks were carried out, which led to eight vehicle stops, six compliance checks and one penalty issued for a child not wearing a seatbelt.

-          Partnership working – working closely with Onward Homes, officers scheduled joint visits with the ASB and problem-solving team. An environment audit is planned to address lighting and damage concerns in the area.

-          Throughout the week several intelligence reports relating to suspected drug activity and nuisance behaviour were submitted, supporting ongoing investigations.

Following the week of action, the local Neighbourhood Team will continue with the Acceptable Behaviour Contracts and have a number of Community Protection Warnings (CPWs) planned to ensure continued progress in the area.

A joint site visit with partners is scheduled for 17th December to agree on long-term solutions and another coffee with a cop event will be organised next month to continue that communication and engagement with the local community.

Local Neighbourhood Inspector Mo Lorgat said: “This week of action demonstrates how community feedback through Lancashire Talking directly shapes our policing priorities. We will continue working with partners to make the area safer and improve quality of life for residents."

“We would encourage the community to continue to tell us their concerns to us via our Lancashire Talking survey. You can also sign up to In the Know to keep updated with what’s going on in your area, visit https://www.stayintheknow.co.uk/.”
