Cyclist left with life-threatening injuries following collision in Preston

Sunday, December 14, 2025

We are appealing for witnesses and footage after a cyclist was left seriously injured in a suspected fail-to-stop collision in Preston.

At 4.51am today (14th December) we were contacted by the North-West Ambulance Service after a member of the public flagged them down having come across a man unresponsive in the carriageway on North Road. A bicycle was recovered nearby with damage consistent with having been involved in a collision.

The man has been taken to hospital with a serious head injury. His injuries are currently described as life-threatening.

Following enquiries, a black Ford Focus was recovered in Fulwood, with damage consistent with having been involved in a collision.

As a result, a 24-year-old man from Fulwood has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving with excess alcohol and driving with excess drugs. He remains in custody at this time.

A road closure remained in place while investigators work was carried out, however it has since re-opened.

Insp Helen Parkinson, from our Road Policing Unit, said: “This collision has left a man with some potentially life-threatening injuries and my thoughts are with him and his loved ones at this time.

“Our job now is to establish exactly what has occurred, and with that in mind I am appealing for any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage which covers the area from 4.30 to 4.50am to make contact with us as soon as possible. We know there were passing vehicles in the area at the time, and again, I would ask those motorists to make contact with us if they have any information which would assist our enquiries.”
