As our investigation into two serious incidents in Accrington continues, we wanted to let you know that we have made three more arrests following our last update.
This morning (31st July) we arrested a 20-year-old man from Preston on suspicion of Section 18 wounding. He remains in custody at this time.
Last week we asked for your help finding 18-year-old Mudaser Hussain and 20-year-old Kasim Hussain. They have both since handed themselves in to police and were arrested on suspicion of Section 18 wounding.
We are continuing to look for 32-year-old Imran Hussain, who also goes by Imtiaz and Immy. His is from Accrington and has links to Coventry and the West Midlands. We want to speak to him in connection with the Section 18 wounding which took place outside a mosque, an unrelated robbery and failing to appear at court.
Two men have so far been charged in relation to the incidents and have appeared before Blackburn Magistrates Court.
Ishtaq Hussain, 33, of no fixed address, was charged with Section 18 wounding with intent, Section 18 grievous bodily harm with intent, possessing of a bladed article, and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.
Aiwaz Hussain, 22, of Monk Street, Accrington, was charged with Section 18 Wounding and was remanded into custody to appear at Blackburn Magistrates Court.
To give you some context, our officers were called to Lower Antley Street at 2.37pm on Friday, 18th July, following reports of an assault which happened outside Raza Jamia Masjid.
Our officers have attended and found a man in his 40s had suffered an injury to his back, consistent with being stabbed. He was taken to hospital.
At 5.15pm on 18th July our officers were then called to Steiner Street following reports around a dozen people were fighting in the street with weapons.
At 5.18pm on 18th July our officers were then called to Craven Street following reports of a further assault which had happened in Richmond Street.
A man was taken to hospital with an injury consistent with being stabbed in the neck. He was taken to hospital.
All three incidents are being treated as linked.
We continue to have a dedicated team of officers assigned to this case, who have made significant progress in this investigation. However, we are continuing to appeal for any witnesses or anyone with CCTV, mobile phone, doorbell or dashcam footage to either make contact with us or independent charity Crimestoppers.
A 36-year-old man, a 33-year-old woman and a 36-year-old woman – all from Accrington and all arrested on suspicion of affray – have been released on bail pending further enquiries.
