The Burnley Neighbourhood Policing Team, in collaboration with multiple partner agencies, carried out a Bin The Bangers operation on Thursday (20 November 2025). The operation aims to address community concerns around road safety, removing unsafe vehicles from the streets.
The initiative removes untaxed, abandoned and road-unworthy vehicles off the streets. Working closely with the DVLA and Burnley Council, the team successfully removed 15 untaxed vehicles from the roads, freeing up valuable space in the Melrose Avenue area of Burnley.
Officers also handed out two Section 59 Warnings to cars driving in an anti-social manner, as well as a issuing an MOT TOR for an individual driving without an MOT for their vehicle.
Local Neighbourhood Inspector for Burnley, Matt Plummer, said: “Bin The Bangers is about working closely with our partner agencies to tackle the issues that matter most to our communities.
“Untaxed and abandoned vehicles not only create an eyesore for residents, visitors, and those working in the area, but they can also pose safety risks by obstructing roads and pathways.
“We remain committed to addressing these concerns and encourage everyone to report issues by signing up to Lancashire Talking and In The Know.”
