We are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage following a serious collision on the M6 last night (3rd April).
It was reported that at around 9.35pm a male pedestrian had fallen from a bridge on the southbound carriageway at Junction 27 (Charnock Richard) and had been struck by a heavy goods vehicle. It is believed the man fell into the carriageway, where he was struck by a second vehicle – a Vauxhall Adam.
The man was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.
The drivers of the heavy goods vehicle and Vauxhall both stopped at the scene. Nobody has been arrested and they are being treated as witnesses to the collision
Due to contact police had with the pedestrian earlier in the day, we have voluntarily referred ourselves to the IOPC (Independent Office for Police Conduct) as is standard practice in these circumstances.
The motorway was closed in both directions but has since re-opened.
