Friday, April 3, 2026

We have charged a man with manslaughter after a man died having earlier been involved in an altercation in Blackburn.

Our officers were called after a man in his 30s sadly died at Royal Preston Hospital on the afternoon of Saturday, March 28th.

We can now confirm that man to be 35-year-old Polish national Marek Krygier who had been living in Blackburn. We have made exhaustive enquiries to identify and contact Marek’s next of kin but have been unable to do so at this time. If you can help us do so, please contact the police as a matter of urgency.

Our enquiries established that Marek was involved in an altercation with two men outside the Home Bargains store in Byrom Street in Blackburn at about 6.45pm on Friday, 27th March.

Marek later collapsed and was taken to hospital where despite the best efforts of medical staff he died the following day.

A Home Office postmortem examination showed the cause of the Marek’s death was a head injury.

Two men, aged 43 and 44 from Blackburn, were arrested on 31st March on suspicion of murder.

Following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service, we have this afternoon charged Connor Doyle, 43, of Cheltenham Road, Blackburn, with manslaughter. He has been remanded into custody to appear at Lancashire Magistrates Court in the morning.

The 44-year-old man has been released on condition bail pending the result of further enquiries.

Although a man has been charged, our enquiries are very much ongoing. Our detectives are especially keen to hear from anyone who went to Home Bargains between 4pm and 9pm on 27th and who witnessed an altercation between a group of men outside the main entrance.

We would also ask that anyone who has any footage such as dashcam, CCTV, or mobile, from the area at around that time please get in touch.

Anyone with information should contact police on 101 quoting log 0936 of 30th March 2026.
