Saturday, February 21, 2026

We are appealing for witnesses and footage after a man suffered serious injuries in a collision near Longridge.

We were called by the North-West Ambulance Service at 1.33am today to Preston Road, Alston, near to the junction with Pinfold Lane, to a report of a collision.

Our officers attended and found that a Nissan Serena car had been in collision with a pedestrian in the carriageway.

The pedestrian, a man in his 70s, suffered multiple injuries and was taken to hospital where he is in a serious condition.

The driver of the Serena did not stop at the scene and was located later in the Preston area.

A 37-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to stop and is currently in custody.

Sgt Paul McCurrie of our Roads Policing Team, said: “My thoughts are very much with the injured man as he undergoes treatment and care in hospital.

“This was a collision which resulted in him receiving significant injuries and an investigation was launched immediately into the cause of it.

“As part of the investigation, we want anyone who witnessed the collision to speak to us.

“If anyone was driving in the area around the time of the collision and has dashcam footage, or if anyone living locally has CCTV/Ring doorbell which might assist us, please get in touch.”
