Fylde Police kick off New Year with major road safety push

Tuesday, February 10, 2026

In January, Fylde Police launched a new initiative to tackle criminality on Fylde’s roads.

The operation aims to reduce the number of Fatal Five crimes taking place within Fylde. These include - careless driving, drink and drug driving, not wearing a seatbelt, using a mobile phone and speeding.

This is coming off the back of another successful Operation Limit, which saw 271 drink and drug driving arrests across Lancashire in December.

In 2024, across the Fylde borough, there were 137 severe road traffic collisions reported to the police with over half (54%) of casualties occurring on urban 30 MPH roads.

Road traffic collisions were also most likely to happen in peak times, such as morning and evening commuter hours, and in the evening during the night-time economy.

The operation began on January 12th 2026 and so far, 19 people have been tested for drink or drug driving. Of these, two tested positive.

A 21 year old male from Lytham st Annes was arrested on suspicion of drug driving after testing positive for cannabis at the roadside. He has been released under investigation whilst officers continue to conduct their enquiries.

A man in his 30’s was also arrested on suspicion of drink driving, after blowing over the legal limit at the roadside. Daniel Creighton, 38, of Wellington St Preston has since been charged with drink driving offences. He has been bailed and will appear before Lancaster Magistrates Court on 13th March.

In addition, officers:

  • Conducted six stop searches

  • Issued four Sec 59 warnings for anti-social driving

  • Seized two vehicles

  • Issued 17 Traffic Offence Reports (TORs) for traffic offences such as careless driving, parking dangerously and driving with no insurance or MOT.

Sergeant Mike Doggett, who initiated this new operation, said: “As a force, road safety is a top priority and we see this is a key concern of the public too, through the Lancashire Talking survey.

“We have seen many different teams come together as a part of this operation, including Neighbourhood Policing, Immediate Response and Specialist Operations.

“I am looking forward to continuing this success 2026 and would urge anyone with concerns to report these to us. We simply do not tolerate criminal behaviour of any kind on our roads. Officers will be out conducting enforcement, roadside checkpoints, drug and alcohol tests, speed detection and much more, so I would encourage anyone who thinks they can get away with Fatal Five behaviours to seriously reconsider.”
