Lancashire Police is celebrating a significant rise in community intelligence following a successful nine‑month period working in partnership with independent charity Crimestoppers.
New figures show a 26.9% increase in reports submitted to Crimestoppers from Lancashire residents compared with the same nine‑month period last year. This marks the highest number of reports ever recorded in the county across a nine‑month period — clear evidence that more residents than ever are choosing to speak up anonymously to help keep their communities safe.
The latest quarterly data highlights the scale of this success, with 649 more reports received between October-December alone than during the same period last year.
There was a particular increase in information received about drug supply, as well as drink driving which Police believe is evidence of the success of Policing operations like Op Warrior, which targets organised crime and Op Limit which tackles drink and drug driving.
Lancashire is also seeing growing engagement of young people through Fearless, Crimestoppers’ youth service, which allows under-25s to report crime anonymously and access advice without fear of repercussions.
All of the additional information received through Crimestoppers will aid and inform future work by officers to target offenders, safeguard vulnerable people, and disrupt criminal activity across the county.
Commenting on the statistics, Head of Crime, Detective Chief Supt Derry Crorken said: “The Constabulary works hard to crack crime, but we can’t do it alone – our communities are our eyes and ears and we need their support to help identify offenders if we are to take positive action.
“Every single anonymous report helps us build a clearer picture of criminal activity, protect our communities, and bring offenders to justice. We are extremely grateful to every single member of the public who has come forward with information and of course, to Crimestoppers for their ongoing support.”
