A man has been jailed for taking a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent in Accrington.

On Tuesday 27th January 2026, we were called to a report of two men acting suspiciously inside a vehicle in the Lower Antley Street area of Accrington. On spotting our officers, both men fled the scene. One man, a 46-year-old, was arrested nearby and enquiries are ongoing to identify the second man.

Kieran Nolan, 46, of no fixed address was later charged with taking a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent.

On 29th January 2026, Nolan appeared at Blackburn Magistrates Court where he was sentenced to ten weeks in prison and fined £154.

Inspector Mo Lorgat from the Hyndburn Neighbourhood Team said, “We recognise the concern these types of incidents cause within the local community. Your information and continued support play a vital role in helping us keep Hyndburn safe.

“We hope the outcome of this investigation offers reassurance and demonstrates how seriously we treat these reports. Our officers remain committed to working closely with the community, listening to your concerns, and taking decisive action against those who engage in criminal behaviour.
