Man charged with stabbing teenage girl in Brierfield

A man has been charged after a teenage girl was stabbed in the neck in Brierfield.

Our officers were called at 3.06pm on Friday 12th June to Wood Street, Brierfield, and found that a 17-year-old had been stabbed in the back of the neck.

She was taken to hospital for treatment. Thankfully her injuries were not life-threatening and she has since been discharged from hospital and is recovering at home.

A 30-year-old man was arrested shortly afterwards on suspicion of attempted murder and taken into custody.

Following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service, Junaid Nawaz, 30, of Livingstone Walk, Brierfield – who is British born of Pakistani heritage – has been charged with attempted murder and possession of a knife in a public place.

He has been remanded in custody to appear before Blackburn Magistrates Court tomorrow morning (15th June).
