Thursday, March 19, 2026

We are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage after a motorcyclist very sadly died following a collision on the A59 at Horton.

The emergency services were called at 2.46pm yesterday to a report of a collision near to the layby where Dick Turpins Snack Bar is located.

Our officers attended and found that an Audi S4 car and a Suzuki GSX800 motorbike which had both been travelling in the direction of Gisburn, had been in collision.

The motorcyclist, a man in his 70s, suffered a head injury and was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.

Det Sgt Stuart Hart of our Collision Investigation team, said: “First and foremost, my thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the motorcyclist at this most distressing and sad time.

“They are being supported by specially trained family liaison officers.

“As we investigate the collision, we are appealing for witnesses and anyone who was driving in the area around the time it happened and has dashcam footage, to contact us.

“While this happened in a rural area, the A59 is a busy road.”

The driver of the Audi, a 46-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving with excess drugs, and is currently in custody.

The A59 at Horton was closed for several hours while collision investigation work was carried out. It was reopened around 9.45pm yesterday.

If you witnessed the collision and haven’t yet contacted us, or have dashcam footage from the area, please contact 101 – quoting log 0795 of 18th March – or email our Serious Collision Investigation Unit at [email protected]
