Crackdown on Anti‑Social Driving as Police Step Up Enforcement Across Preston

Friday, May 1, 2026

Police have stepped up action against dangerous and anti‑social driving in Preston as part of a targeted operation in the Ribbleton area.

Officers from Preston’s Neighbourhood Policing Team, supported by Specialist Operations, carried out high‑visibility stop‑check sites around Roman Way on Saturday night (25th April 2026), following ongoing concerns from the community.

During the operation, around 40 vehicles were stopped for a range of offences including speeding, vehicle defects, illegal window tinting and lighting issues.

As a result of the enforcement activity, officers:

  • Issued 6 vehicle defect notices (HORT)
  • Issued 9 traffic offence reports
  • Served 5 Section 59 warning notices for anti‑social driving
  • Conducted 21 vehicle stops under Section 163 of the Road Traffic Act

Alongside enforcement, officers also engaged with dozens of drivers, promoting responsible road use and highlighting the dangers of the Fatal 5 - the five key factors that contribute to serious and fatal road traffic collisions.

Neighbourhood Policing Sgt John Gregory said: “Anti‑social driving, racing or behaviour that puts others at risk will not be tolerated. We will take robust enforcement action against those who choose to drive irresponsibly and endanger our communities.”

“Under Operation Centurion, we will continue working closely with our roads policing teams and partner agencies to carry out targeted operations like this and put a stop to anti‑social driving in Preston.”
