A number of fireworks have been seized and youth referrals have been made following a night of action targeting antisocial behaviour in Nelson.
A group of youths were stopped by officers on Saturday 24 October, and some fireworks were found discarded nearby. Stop and searches were also carried out on people who matched the description of youths caught setting off fireworks, and several youth referrals have been submitted.
Officers are also conducting CCTV enquiries to identify offenders who were seen setting off fireworks, in a bid to prosecute those who are responsible.
PC Bradley Wheeler of the Pendle Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “We understand the concern that anti-social behaviour involving fireworks can cause to local residents. Setting off fireworks irresponsibly in public places can cause distress and alarm, and put people at risk.
“We are already taking action and will continue to pursue all available lines of enquiry and where sufficient evidence exists, we will seek to prosecute offenders. We would encourage anyone with information or relevant footage to contact us.”
