Man jailed for raping and sexually assaulting a young woman

Tuesday, November 3, 2026

A man who raped and sexually assaulted a young vulnerable woman and subjected her to violent attacks, has been jailed for more than 10 years.

Zain Hussain, 20, (pictured right) committed the offences in Darwen.

The brave victim attended Greenbank Police Station, Blackburn, in November 2025 last year to report an assault by Hussain.

Officers arrested Hussain the following day and he was subsequently charged with assault and remanded to prison.

When Hussain was on remand, his victim further revealed she had been subjected to sexual offences by him.

In January 2026, detectives from our Rape and Serious Sexual Offences team attended HMP Altcourse to further interview Hussain for the sexual offences.

The same day, the Crown Prosecution Service authorised further sexual offences to add to his original list of charges.

Hussain, formerly from Darwen and now of no fixed address, was found guilty by a jury of rape, sexual assault by penetration, two offences of assault causing actual bodily harm, and two offences of non-fatal strangulation following at trial at Preston Crown Court in August 2026.

His victim was forced to give evidence at this trial, the trauma of doing so causing her to faint and vomit in the witness box.

Appearing at Burnley Crown Court today (3rd November) for sentence, Hussain was jailed for 10 years and 10 months. He was made subject of an indefinite restraining order regarding his victim and ordered to sign the sex offenders' register.

Det Con Dan Healey of our East Division’s Rape and Serious Sexual Offences team, said: “Zain  Hussain committed horrific offences against his victim who was extremely vulnerable and knowing how vulnerable she is, then forced her to relive her ordeal by giving evidence at court.

“I would like to pay tribute to her for doing so in the brave way that she did.

“Hussain has shown no remorse for what he did and took the case to trial, that forcing the victim to give evidence at court which had such a traumatic effect on her and I welcome the lengthy sentence imposed by the judge for this serious offending.

“If you have been victim of sexual offences, please report it to Lancashire Police.

You will be listened to and supported, and we will investigate thoroughly to bring offenders to justice.”
