A man has received a custodial sentence of 4 years and 8 months after pleading guilty to possession of a Class A drug with intent to supply, after being caught with 1kg of cocaine in his car in Nelson.
Leon Edmondson, 42, of Dall Street, Burnley, was stopped by officers on Thursday 28 May after his car flagged as being involved in drug dealing. He admitted to having cocaine in the car and officers found a large block of white powder in the footwell of the passenger seat, wrapped in a plastic bag. A smaller bag of white powder was also found in the vehicle.
Edmondson was arrested on suspicion of possession of a Class A drug with intent to supply and taken to custody for questioning.
A further search of Edmondson’s house in Burnley was conducted, where officers found £35,000 in cash hidden in a wardrobe.
The brick of powder found in his car was tested and confirmed to be cocaine, with a street value of more than £80,000.
Edmondson admitted to possession of a Class A drug with intent to supply, and said the money found in his home was made from importing cannabis from Thailand and selling the Class B drug in the UK.
He was charged with possession of a Class A drug with intent to supply, supply of a Class B drug, and possession of criminal property, relating to the cash that was seized.
On Monday (14 September), Edmondson appeared at Preston Crown Court where he pleaded guilty to the offences. He was sentenced to 4 years and 8 months.
Insp. Rob Grey, of the Prosper Partnership Team in Nelson, said: “This is an excellent result for the community of Nelson and once again shows that the supply of controlled substances will not be tolerated by the public or the police.
“Officers will continue to proactively target those committing organised crime in our area and will act on any information given to the police.”
